In a city where military service touches countless households, military zoo admission can turn a family outing into a welcome moment together.

San Antonio Zoo is offering free admission through November to eligible service members through its returning Zoo Salutes program.

The offer covers active-duty personnel, retirees and veterans, including members of the National Guard and Reserves.

Up to four immediate family members can receive tickets at half price when they visit with an eligible service member.

That matters in San Antonio, where a thank-you feels more meaningful when loved ones can share the day.

For families watching their budgets, the discount may make an outing easier to plan.

Visitors must purchase Zoo Salutes tickets online before arriving and present a valid military ID at the entrance.

Family discount tickets must be used on the same day as the eligible service member’s visit.

The offer cannot be combined with other discounts, so checking ticket details before making plans is worthwhile.

The timing also gives families a chance to pair a zoo trip with the start of the holiday season.

Zoo Lights begins November 14, bringing colorful displays, glowing tunnels and seasonal music to the grounds.

The holiday experience is included with regular zoo admission and is free for zoo members.

Families hoping to see the lights should choose a visit on or after November 14.

For those visiting earlier, the admission offer still provides an opportunity to spend time together at the zoo.

Service can mean missed afternoons and complicated schedules, making an unhurried family day especially valuable.

The program extends that invitation to eligible military visitors regardless of where they call home.

It also recognizes that military family admission discounts help include the people who support service members every day.

Anyone planning to use San Antonio Zoo military admission should arrange tickets in advance and bring the required identification.

In Military City, that simple preparation could lead to a memorable November outing with the whole family.

Does anyone know if the free admission covers the whole day including any special exhibits or just general admission? Trying to plan ahead.

People forget that the families sacrifice too. Nice to see the discount covers immediate family members and not just the service member.

armywife_210Exactly. My wife held things down through two deployments. A half price ticket barely covers it but it's something at least.

Zoo Lights starting November 14 is the perfect excuse to plan a trip. My kids talk about those glowing tunnels every single year.

Just a heads up, make sure you buy the tickets online before you go. Showed up once without doing that and had to deal with the whole thing at the gate. Not fun.

Half price for up to four family members is actually a solid deal. With four kids that adds up fast so this helps a lot.

Good to see they included retirees and Guard members this time. We get left out of a lot of these deals so this is appreciated.

JD_VeteranSame here. Retirees especially get overlooked on these things. Glad they remembered us this time around.

This is awesome, took my husband and kids last year when they did something similar and it was such a great day. San Antonio really does look out for our military families.

Rosa M.Zoo Lights makes it even better if you time it right. We went a couple years ago during the light display and the kids still talk about it.
