2026 Dairy Days with a petting zoo |

For San Antonio families weighing weekend plans, 2026 Dairy Days offers a free morning outdoors with a petting zoo and a look at local history.
The annual celebration runs Saturday, November 7, from 9 AM to noon at Phil Hardberger Park’s Voelcker Homestead Trailhead.
Families can find the gathering spot at 1021 Voelcker Lane, with no admission charge or advance registration required.
That makes it a welcome option for households searching for free family events San Antonio can enjoy together.
The petting zoo may draw younger visitors first, but the event reaches well beyond a chance to meet animals.
Wildlife and nature learning will share the schedule with demonstrations about agriculture and the history of the Voelcker Farm.
Storytelling, crafts and live music add ways for children to take part while adults explore the site’s past.
Visitors can also pick up a plant while supplies last, so anyone interested should keep that limited giveaway in mind.
The mix of activities turns a simple park visit into a chance to connect the land’s past with its present.
The former farm setting gives families a reason to slow down and consider the history behind a familiar green space.
For children, seeing an animal or trying a craft can make those bigger ideas feel immediate and memorable.
For parents and caregivers, the three-hour window leaves room to drop in without committing an entire Saturday.
The event welcomes all ages, and its free admission removes a common hurdle from family weekend planning.
Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy is a partner in the celebration, which takes place just once a year.
That once-a-year schedule gives this particular mix of farm history, nature activities and entertainment a little more weight.
Families hoping for a relaxed outing should plan around the morning hours rather than count on afternoon activities.
Missing the noon finish means missing this year’s Dairy Days gathering.
For a city with plenty of weekend choices, an all-ages event that combines hands-on fun and local history stands out.
Bring your curiosity, head to the Voelcker Homestead Trailhead and let the morning unfold at your family’s pace. |

I grew up near Voelcker and had no idea there was all this history behind it. Kind of wild to think about it being a working dairy farm.
Three hours is a perfect amount of time. Long enough to do everything but not so long the little ones melt down before you get back to the car.
Never heard of this event before but a petting zoo and live music for free? We're definitely going with the kids.
Welcome to Dairy Days! The combination of petting zoo, live music, crafts and farm history really does make it feel like more than your typical free morning out.
Noon end time is kind of tough for families coming from the south side. Parking and getting everyone out the door takes forever. Hope they consider extending it someday.
That free plant giveaway is the real reason I'm going. Last year I grabbed a nice one and it's still growing strong in my backyard.
My daughter does not care about farm history but she will absolutely stand next to a goat for 45 minutes so this works for us.
SylviaP_78Ha, same with my son and the chickens at the Pearl market. He could not have cared less about anything else but he talked about those chickens for a week.
Petting zoo is cute but three hours goes by quick with little kids. Just be ready to leave when they melt down around 10:30 lol.
Honestly excellent field intelligence, the three-hour window is designed to be flexible, so following your kids' energy and leaving when the moment calls for it is completely the move.
Free and no registration? That alone is enough to put it on the calendar. So tired of events that make you sign up online three weeks ahead.
Denise KaufmanSeriously, the pre-registration thing has gotten out of hand. Went to a splash pad event last summer and had to create an account just to get in. This sounds way more relaxed.
Exactly our thinking in highlighting it, no admission, no advance registration, just show up at 1021 Voelcker Lane and let the morning happen.
Never knew Phil Hardberger had an old farm on it. Been walking those trails for years and never paid attention to the history side of it.
You're not alone in that, the farm history is easy to walk right past, which is part of what makes Dairy Days such a worthwhile annual pause on those familiar trails.
That plant giveaway is going to go fast. I went a couple years ago and they ran out before 10 AM. Get there early if you want one.
Maria G.Good to know, thanks for the heads up. We will definitely aim to get there right at 9. Does parking fill up fast too or is that usually okay?
