For San Antonio residents looking to turn a routine visit into an act of generosity, the Thanksgiving food drive offers a straightforward way to help.

Throughout November, visitors can bring two nonperishable food items to either participating facility and receive free entry during normal operating hours.

The 2026 drive runs from November 1 through November 30, giving households time to participate around work, school, and Thanksgiving plans.

Donations can be dropped off at Atanacio Garcia Natatorium, 1430 W Durango, and Barrera Fitness Center, 5800 Historic Old Hwy 90.

Those locations put the opportunity along familiar West Side routes for neighbors who may already pass through these parts of San Antonio.

Rather than asking people to set aside an entire afternoon, this holiday food drive folds giving into a familiar trip.

For families watching their budgets, a two-item donation offers a clear way to take part while keeping the request manageable.

Visitors should choose shelf-stable items that are unopened and in good condition, so their donations are ready to be put to use.

Before making a special trip, check each facility’s normal operating hours; the free-entry offer applies during those hours, not around the clock.

Atanacio Garcia Natatorium can be reached at 210-207-3299, while Barrera Fitness Center can be reached at 210-207-3047.

The San Antonio Thanksgiving food drive arrives at a time when grocery expenses can make the holiday season feel especially tight.

A community collection cannot solve that pressure on its own, but it gives residents a practical way to show up for their neighbors.

That matters in a city where shared spaces are often more than places to exercise or swim; they are part of daily neighborhood life.

There is still time to contribute after Thanksgiving, since the collection continues through the end of November, when holiday needs may remain on residents’ minds.

Wish they did this at more locations around the city. Not everyone is near the West Side.

Denise MoralesTotally agree. Would love to see the community centers on the South Side or Northeast included. Maybe they expand it next year if turnout is good.

I drive past Barrera Fitness Center almost every day so this is literally zero effort for me. No excuse not to do it.

Two cans of beans and you get in free? That's a pretty good deal honestly. Gonna bring my kids to the natatorium this weekend.

Maria G.Same, taking my nephew Saturday. Good way to teach the kids about giving without making it a whole lecture about it.
