The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2026 induction class, prominently featuring three distinguished figures from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA): Frank Harris, Tameka Roberts-Nunez, and Larry Coker. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center's Stars at Night Ballroom.
Frank Harris, a standout quarterback for the UTSA Roadrunners from 2017 to 2023, has left an indelible mark on the program. Starting 52 games, he led the team to a 39-13 record, securing back-to-back Conference USA Championships in 2021 and 2022. Harris holds over 35 school records, including career totals for total offensive yards (14,007), passing yards (11,862), and passing touchdowns (92). His leadership was instrumental in UTSA's ascent to national prominence.
Tameka Roberts-Nunez, an eight-time All-American in track and field during the 1990s, dominated the Southland Conference with 17 individual or relay titles. Her versatility extended to basketball, where she contributed significantly during the 1997-98 season. Roberts-Nunez's athletic prowess has solidified her legacy as one of UTSA's most accomplished athletes.
Larry Coker, the inaugural head coach of UTSA's football program, was pivotal in establishing the team's foundation. Appointed in 2009, he guided the Roadrunners to a remarkable start, including a record-setting inaugural game attendance of 56,743 at the Alamodome in 2011. Under his leadership, UTSA achieved significant milestones, laying the groundwork for future successes.
Joining them in the 2026 class are Olympic swimmer James Feigen and the 1971 Robert E. Lee High School football team, both recognized for their exceptional contributions to sports.
The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, established in 1995, honors individuals and teams with significant ties to the city who have made impactful contributions to the sports world. The upcoming induction ceremony not only celebrates these achievements but also supports youth and community programs through its proceeds.
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the event are available, with proceeds benefiting local youth initiatives. For more information, interested parties are encouraged to contact the event organizers directly. |
