San Antonio Says Goodbye to Music Legend Augie Meyers
San Antonio music legend Augie Meyers, whose signature Vox organ sound helped define Tex-Mex rock for decades, has died at the age of 85. Born in San Antonio, Meyers was a founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and later the supergroup Texas Tornados.
His distinctive organ became a defining part of the band's sound on songs like She is About a Mover, Mendocino, and Nuevo Laredo. Meyers also worked as a studio musician for artists including Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Tom Jones.
Local Bank President Spreads Joy to Hospitalized Kids
American Bank market president Manny Ruiz marked International Day of Awesomeness by donating hundreds of teddy bears to children at Baptist Children's Hospital at North Central Baptist. The gesture was especially meaningful for Ruiz, who nearly lost his life to COVID-19 during the pandemic.
Ruiz also shared stuffed animals with the San Antonio Police Department and Fire Department so first responders can give them to children during emergencies.
San Antonio Student Named Texas Young Master
Isabella Cervera, an 11th grader at the North East School of the Arts, has been named a 2026 Butler Texas Young Master. The prestigious statewide honor comes with $5,000 per year for two years to support her advanced training in musical theater.
The Texas Young Masters program recognizes students in grades 8 through 11 who demonstrate exceptional artistic talent and dedication.
